This is a very good condition 1979 “Norlin Era” Gibson ES-335 TD, serial 70229018 manufactured in Kalamazoo, MI. The frets are in quite excellent condition so we expect it has been the recipient of a nice refret in the past. There is nothing that screams fret job whatsoever. Frets are seated and level, and the neck sets up perfectly. The back of the neck is nice and smooth, naturally worn but free of any unwanted dings.
The guitar displays the expected finish checking and aging for an instrument of this age. The biggest boo-boo on the guitar is a small piece of the maple laminate missing on the side of the body against the rear binding. The pickups have been replaced with Seymour Duncan Antiquities and the pots are newer CTS with Orange Drop tone caps. It has been rewired without the original coil split.
Pots, wiring and output jack are all clean. Hardware on the guitar is sound all around. The tuners have been replaced with modern Grovers
How Does It Play?
Currently set up with 11’s and tuned down a half step, this guitar plays beautifully. String action is a hair over 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and right at 4/64” on the high E, without buzz. Let us know upon purchase if you prefer a different string gauge or tuning. But the guitar absolutely sings as is.
The included Epiphone hard case is in excellent structural condition, with small scuffs and tears and some sticker residue in the tolex.
