The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
This is a mint condition 2021 Fano SP6 Alt de Facto. It features a resonant mahogany body with the dry, airy quality you’re hard-pressed to find in a modern mahogany guitar. On top of that, the Lollar OmniTron P-90s are wound specially for Fano and are voiced just a little more crisp and open than your standard P-90 to give you tighter low end, cleaner mids and a single coil-like top end. The result is an instrument that is remarkably articulate and “woody” at the same time.
The neck position can get superbly warm and buttery with the tone rolled back, or you can go tone full up for Strat-like vibes with a little extra chewiness. The bridge pickup has an immediately-recognizable Tele snarl that takes full advantage of the half-Tele bridge and brass saddles. It heats up nicely with some overdrive and again, interacts very well with the tone knob. The middle position rings clear in a mix with a perfect mix of body and shimmer, perfect for fingerpicking and pop-country intervals.
How Does It Play?
The string action hovers right at 4/64" across all strings at the 12th fret, playing nice and low but free of any fretbuzz. The neck profile is a comfortable medium-chunky C with a nice taper that allows you to dig in anywhere but really supports the hand no matter how you play. There is no fretwear.
