Designed by and built here in the US under the supervision of Jack Schwarz, Aero3 Guitars incorporate Aerospace Honeycomb material into chambers in the body. Having worked in a variety of roles from Master Technician to Vice President at Fender and serving currently as CEO of DSMI (parent company of Fano Guitars), Jack took what he learned from years in the industry and put it all into the Aero3 design. These guitars deliver big sustain, acoustically controlling unwanted frequencies while enhancing overall resonance and harmonic frequency response. The brand did not have the funding to fully break through into the market. Because of our close relationship with Jack, we have been offered the remaining stock of Aero3 Guitars to share with our clients. These guitars are prototypes with some minor play wear from testing, which we have made sure to point out in close-up photos. They are a phenomenal value when you look at the construction, hardware, build quality and appointments of the instruments.
What Do We Think?
The stainless steel frets, Birdseye Maple fretboard and Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates/TB-11 pickup pairing make this an extremely articulate guitar. The bridge pickup has a strong growl that never
quite cleans up, while the neck pickup cleans up very nicely with the volume knob or through a clean amp. With distortion, the TB-11 in the bridge
position is tight and defined with audible harmonics and overtones. The neck position is nice and creamy in front of an overdriven amp. If you’re looking for beautiful cleans, the middle position might become your
go-to, delivering a shimmering presence and full-bodied low end through a
clean amp.
The neck is a nice alternative to the modern “slim/fast” necks, still allowing for speed but providing nice support for the hand at the same time. The profile is based off Jeff Beck’s 1963 Strat, noticeably deeper than the shallow ’62 Strat profile. The Jescar “6100”-profile jumbo frets are round and fast, not too tall. The guitar also features GraphTech Ratio tuning keys with gear ratios customized for each string, providing one of the silkiest tuning experiences you’ll ever find.
The bridge is a Fender American Deluxe 2-point Tremolo, machined (not die-cast) for a great feel on the hand and nice sustain. Speaking of sustain, let’s talk briefly about the chambered aerospace design of the Aero3 models. Notes DO sustain longer than your typical guitar, even before cranking the gain. You won’t have to “work” the guitar to milk those long notes out of it.
How Does It Play?
The beautiful birdseye maple fretboard plays effortlessly, with the highly-polished stainless steel frets allowing for silky smooth bending and stellar note clarity. The neck sets up straight and allowed us to dial in low action without any buzz. Going elsewhere to find the same specs, quality of fretwork, and beautiful 5A Flame Maple Top is going to cost a heck of a lot more. We’re sad the Aero3 line didn’t have the financing to break into the market with more production, but happy we got a few before they’re gone.
