The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
We’ve got a whole lot of things to talk about on this beautiful HSH configuration JM6, but let’s start with the fact that it has some incredible character in the midrange. Rocking the Lollar Imperial in the bridge with some amp gain, you immediately recognize a distinct grunt in the lower mids simultaneously with an airy clarity on top. The maple cap adds a wonderful punch to the overall tonal quality with every amp and pickup setting. The guitar also sustains really well in your hands, losing nothing to the 2-pivot Gotoh 510 steel block bridge.
The neck position yields a full-bodied low end, well-mannered midrange and a discernible “chirp” on top. The push/pull on the tone pot coil splits the neck pickup when you want to dust off your Strat chops. The volume push/pull engages the middle pickup, allowing for nice “in-between” position tones with the neck and bridge pickups. One of our favorite combinations is actually the neck in full humbucking mode alongside the Special S in the middle. This position sings like a Strat but with some extra throatiness and fuller output.
Haven’t found what you’re looking for yet? This guitar has a total of ten different tonal “positions” provided via the 3-way toggle, neck coil-split and middle pickup. Having all three pickups engaged delivers loads of quack and spank, especially with the neck coil split. It’s an incredible tool to have at your disposal. And let’s not finish without mentioning the roasted maple neck and fretboard.
How Does It Play?
Fast and smooth. The late 60’s C profile fits the hand nicely, neither modern-thin nor overly chunky. Likewise, the natural JM body contours are generously beveled and gratifying to hold. The string action is low just like you want it. This one also features a 12” fretboard radius that allows for aggressive string bends and tremolo dives without any fretbuzz.
