Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
Sporting a pair of Lollar P-90s, this guitar is ready to take on a variety of styles while retaining the signature attack of a maple fretboard and the evenly-dispersed lows and mids of the alder body. The ride is tight and responsive, with just the right contribution of raw power and seat-of-the-pants sensation from the P-90s. They compress nicely in front of a pushed tube amp, but have equal ability to sparkle on your clean tones.
The neck position is fat and rich but maintains poise throughout the entire register. The middle position is hum-cancelling and stresses a nice sheen on top for your more jangly chord work or for clean arpeggiated lines. The bridge position delivers a powerful midrange and a refined top end that could best be described as enunciated rather than strident. The guitar has plenty of output to saturate your tube amp when desired and the volume knob provides excellent control when you want to clean up your more overdriven tones right from the guitar.
How Does It Play?
Particularly worth noting, this JM6 delivers the feel of a slightly larger neck profile thanks to an especially-thick slab of maple used for the fretboard. It fills out the hand a little more than the average JM6 neck, leaning slightly towards chunky for folks who like them that way. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E. This is a fabulous neck all around.
