The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
This guitar truly becomes your voice the moment you plug it in. The Fralin P-90s are superbly responsive in this instrument, with just the right amount of scoop in the mid- to upper-reaches of the midrange to keep the mahogany neck and body ringing clean and clear. The neck pickup has a perfect crispness on the top and a tight low end with some warm, smoldering flavor around the A and D strings. This pickup can come across smooth and mellow to a softer attack, or really sizzle when played into a little harder.
The middle position has chime, clarity, and a funky quality that keeps your rhythm playing right on top in a mix. It also has an acoustic-like sparkle when arpeggiated or played in a fingerpicking style. The bridge position is drier and earthier but dishes out the heat, equal parts bark of an SG and snap of a Tele. It will twang right along to your hybrid picking and banjo rolls, or really make your AC or Plexi sing when you crank up the dirt.
How Does It Play?
No surprise, this guitar sets up beautifully without any buzz. Between the guitar’s light weight and the 24.75” scale length, this is an extremely agile instrument. The deep cutaways give you superb access to all 22 frets. Not a thin 60’s profile and not a baseball bat either, the neck falls right in the middle and can appease players from both sides of the aisle. The strap button position on the cutaway horn also prevents any neck dive you may be used to experiencing on an SG!
