What's the deal with refurbished?
This instrument is stamped "used" on the back of the headstock and given a new serial number by the manufacturer-authorized refurbisher. Why? It was deemed to have a cosmetic imperfection or to need a repair. Check the description to see exactly why this instrument is considered refurbished. We scrutinize every instrument and pass along all information from the refurbisher so that you know exactly what you are getting. These are like new with little or zero play wear!
True creativity requires something new, something like the inspiring sound and feel of the Malibu Special. The exclusive small-body shape’s short scale gives it a slightly “slinkier” feel, encouraging you to reach for new chords and melodies. It looks as stunning as it sounds, with a fully-painted solid Sitka spruce top with painted solid mahogany sides and back, along with a matching painted 6-in-line headstock and maple binding giving it a shot of electrifying attitude. The bold style and balanced, articulate sound make the Malibu Special a natural partner on stage and in the studio.
This particular instrument has some light marks and scratches in the satin finish on the body. Due to the blemishes, Fender sent the guitar to the refurbishing center before installing the electronics. The Fender-authorized refurbisher has installed the Fishman Presys Blend system. This system is a nice upgrade from the standard electronics and features an internal microphone that can be blended in alongside the undersaddle pickup to capture more of the warmth and nuance of the body. Aside from what we have described, this instrument is in mint condition.
How Does It Play?
We have given this small-bodied guitar a nice setup to make sure it is playing low and easy without fretbuzz. It is extremely comfortable to play. The string action at the 12th fret measures just 3/32" on the low E string and 2/32" on the high E, without any buzz.
