Condition: Used, Excellent
This is a nearly mint condition 2016 Z Wreck 30 Watt Head, serial # AA3150. There is some light scuffing on a few of the metal bumper corners. Other than that, it is completely mint. Amp runs nice and quiet with no scratchy pots, noisy tubes, or other interference. Power tubes are original-spec Russian 6n14n EL84’s and preamp tubes are original-spec Tung-Sol 12AX7’s. Could be the original tubes or could be replacements, but either way they are exactly what the Dr. ordered.
What Does Josh Think?
I plugged a P-90 equipped guitar straight into this head and got lost for a while. With the full output of the P-90s and plugged into a 1x12 cab, you start to find break up around 10:00 on the amp’s volume knob. But the sweet spot in my book is setting-and-leaving it around noon or 1:00 and using the guitar’s volume to do all the rest. Rolled way down, the neck pickup gave me clean glassy tones with all the clarity and character of a Strat. Rolled up midway I was met with sweet edge-of-breakup cruch. Rolled all the way up and flipped to the bridge pickup, this amp shows some real attitude but still responds beautifully to touch and to the tone knob.
For me, the “Speed” setting on the voltage tap switch is where it’s at. But for a little more compression, the “Comfort” setting delivers a nuanced but noticeable change in the ride. While the front panel is very straight-forward, the combination of cut/bass/treble gives you loads of tonal tailoring. In my experience, everything set to noon was just right… leaving the rest to the fingers.
