Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

The Fano P-90 pickups are punchy and juicy. The’ve got enough output to push your amp into sweet compression, but they have a soft side too. What you put in is what you get out. The neck position is warm with generous body and a round top end. The middle position embodies the crispness of a Strat without the phasey characteristic, and with some extra punch and depth.

The bridge position has the trademark P-90 snarl, but also responds beautifully to the tone knob. Backing off to 7 or so shifts the midrange vowel south a bit, taking on more of the smooth and rounded tone of a humbucker. Whether playing clean, a little overdriven or downright dirty, you won’t have any trouble getting this pickup paired up perfectly with your amp.

How Does It Play?

The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless. The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret without any fretbuzz.
