What Does Josh Think?

First off, this is a pretty lightweight JM-style guitar! Measures in at 7.5lb thanks to a nice resonant piece of alder. The Lollar JM pickup in the neck position gives you all the clucky goodness, with plenty of warmth and body to support it. Kick the 3-way toggle to the bridge position to release a bit more grunt and power thanks to a P-90 hiding under a JM cover. Just what the doctor ordered for my ears.

Brian at Shabat killed it with this Candy Tangerine finish! It’s tough to describe what the first glance in the case makes you feel like. I like it so much I don’t even want to wait for the real photos! So I’m listing it with some quick cellphone snaps to get it out into the world as quickly as possible. No edits, no touchups. You’re seeing just what I saw when I cracked open the case!

This guitar spares nothing when it comes to components or attention to detail. You’re probably familiar with the Mastery bridge and trem. But just in case you aren’t, they are super pieces of hardware. The trem arm features a nicely little pop-in design that stays put and ready to go. The flame on the neck is gorgeous. And one more touch… a contoured neck heel for those moments you want to make a quick and flawless transition higher up the neck.

How Does It Play?

The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret, and under 4/64” on the high E. That’s without any fretbuzz. Avi Shabat does the best fret end dressing we’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. The medium C neck profile features healthy shoulders without being thick or cumbersome. Not chunky, just supportive.
