Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Josh Think?
This one plays the part of a fantastic HH Strat but with a bit of extra swagger. The Lollar Imperial humbuckers are lush but tight. And the Gotoh 510 is a really superb tremolo. Specifically, this is the 510T-SF2 model with traditional steel saddles and Gotoh’s FST mechanism which prevents the strings from binding on the baseplate as they exit the block. Tuning returns perfectly to pitch after use.
The maple fretboard adds some punch and focus to the neck position. This makes it an incredibly versatile position. It delivers on everything from fat leads to warm chordal work, but all with perfect articulation. In fact, there’s even room to roll back the tone knob without muddying up the pickup if you want to make it even rounder.
The bridge position can spank, despite being a humbucker. It has girth but articulation. It delivers a pure, snappy tone through a clean amp and pushes a dirty rig with perfect poise and precision. Everything from Waylon to Van Halen, you can make it happen here.
How Does It Play?
The neck profile is a moderate “early 60’s” C that leaves enough on the shoulder to support the hand and prevent fatigue, while affording a thin enough profile for blazing fretwork. Generous body contours and a heel contour make this guitar especially easy to navigate. The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th and right at 4/64” on the high E.
