We are incredibly impressed by the volume and tone coming out of this small combo. Pushing 300W through its highly-efficient 5” speakers, this amp will keep up with a drummer at rehearsal no problem. It will also deliver all the punch and clarity you could need on stage for monitoring purposes. And this amp is loaded with features. Having 2 independent channels allows you to dial in the perfect tone for two different basses. Gigging one passive and one active? Upright and electric? Start with the hi/lo input switches and then move onto your input gains and EQ’s from there. The Suitcase Compact will also handle two instruments simultaneously.

The tone is finely-balanced and the EQ responds nicely in all three frequency bands. The low EQ boosts the sub bass frequencies for bass you feel even before you hear it, filling out the bottom without muddying the low-mids. The mid EQ band points the tone forward in the mix when you want extra punch, and the treble gives you perfect control over your string definition. We find the onboard compressor/limiter to be a very powerful tool as well. We like it in the 8- to 2-o’clock range, where it not only smooths out the peaks but also tightens up your tone and really bring your bass to life.

The Suitcase Compact also has the power to feed an external speaker cabinet. It is rated for 500+ watts at a 4ohm load, easily pushing the matching C4 Compact or even C8 Compact cab. On top of the C8, the Suitcase is raised up in more direct ear shot so that you can hear every nuance of your playing even on a loud stage.

The feature set is rounded out with an aux input, headphone out, effects loop, XLR DI out, ¼” preamp out and tuner out. A voltage selector gives you the ability to switch between 120V and 240V for international gigs. The included slip cover is also a nice touch.
