Moonshine and music have long been staples of the hills of North Carolina. The state was the birthplace of banjo great Earl Scruggs and the stomping grounds of flat top picker Doc Watson. But more recently, the electrified sounds of Elliott guitars and amplifiers have been heard rolling in the valleys and roaring on stages across the nation. From an unassuming shop in Hiddenite, NC, this 190-proof team is crafting some of the most intoxicating small-batch guitar flavors in the industry.
What Do We Think?
A double shot that starts clean and finishes with a bite. The Revenuer head offers an organic range of tones in a straight-to-the-point arrangement, employing only a few controls but cooking up many variations. What’s really unique about this amp is the Tweed-inspired preamp section matched with a more British-inspired power section. The EL34’s provide a smooth and spongy compression at all breakup levels of the 12AY7 and 12AX7 preamp tubes, and the solid state rectifier helps it maintain a tight low end attack. The amp flips from class A to class AB and 20W to 30W with switches on the rear panel so you can easily choose how it responds to gain and dynamics. On the front, the four input options allow you to plug into either the Normal or the Bright channel, or jumper them for a legendary Rock N’ Roll overdrive.
This amplifier really shines with single coils and P-90 pickups. Low wind, articulate humbuckers will find a home here, too. The voicing is warm and fat at all settings. Rather than get saggy on the low end, the Revenuer’s natural compression kicks in and holds on to your notes longer the more you push the amp. A 3-way bright voicing switch makes it easy to find the right “cut” in the mix. The bright and normal channels are tremendously interactive when dialing in the amount of body and presence that your application requires, and the tone knob is ready to step in with a highly effective sweep to find the perfect sweet spot for your guitar. All point-to-point wired, this amp is a solid piece of gear that will add some serious muscle to your tone.
Optional Matching Cabinets Available
We have two matching 1x12 Elliott cabinet options in stock, one with a Celestion Alnico Gold 50W and the other in a deep configuration loaded with a Celestion Heritage G12H 75hz. Both of these Celestion models are made in England. The Alnico Gold has loads of chime and a rich midrange. The Heritage G12H delivers has the grunt factor and moves a lot of air in the low end while supporting a crisp and musical upper range. And might we say, the two cabs do sound darn good together too! Contact us for details on either cabinet.
