What Does Cam Think?

ESP holds a special place in my heart. Their heritage in the hard rock and metal world is legendary. Among the models ESP makes, the TE-II is one of my absolute favorites. It’s a shame the USA shop has discontinued the TE-II model, but we do have this beautiful example and one of the last TE’s produced! If you have ever wanted a hard rockin’ Tele, this is the one!

Sonically, the Duncan Alnico II Pro’s are a match made in heaven for the TE-II. The II Pro is a classic Duncan design that falls in the rock/ blues category of humbucker. Think Slash’s tone on ‘Appetite’. Tones are natural and organic; nothing sounds hyped or artificial.

The bridge position II Pro has excellent clarity and articulation but with a smooth top end. With a cooking amp, you can generate harmonics and overdrive for days. It’s that rock sound that sits well in the mix, and just so fun to play.

The neck position is warm and ‘spongy’ with a round low end. The top end is sweet and tapered, making this a mellow tone generator. Great for solos and cleans alike. The middle position has a healthy low-end and stringy treble with a hollowed-out midrange. I love this scooped tone for cleans and interesting gained-up tones. I can’t think of a better pickup set for this monster than the Alnico II Pro’s!

How Does It Play?

The string action sits at just 4/64” across all strings, measured at the 12^th fret. The thin U is not shredder thin, but a supremely comfortable neck shape nonetheless. With the extra jumbo frets, you’ll have no problem gliding up and down the fretboard with ease. The neck is buttery smooth with no sharp edges.
