The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Does Cam Think?
The GF6 fixes most issues I have encountered with other semi-hollow guitars. In many others, the body seems to be too thick or too thin, leaning too close to an acoustic or electric respectively regarding ergonomics. I feel like the GF6 splits the difference and feels beefy enough to work like a true semi-hollow, but not unnecessarily so. It also feels very comfortable to sit down and play. And it’s loud enough to hear acoustically; it would make a great couch instrument. But, let’s talk about how it sound plugged in…
The Lollar Imperial Low Winds are the perfect pickups for this GF6. I plugged into a Carr Rambler and immediately started playing ‘Rumble’ by Link Wray. I turned up the Reverb and Tremolo controls and was in tone heaven. The guitar felt alive in my lap. I think the GF6 is one of the best models Fano makes.
The bridge position Low Wind has exceptional clarity, without being bright. I could hear every note in a chord, and without the harshness you sometimes encounter in an articulate pickup. The neck Imperial Low Wind is one of my favorites from Lollar. It’s the perfect blend of definition and fatness. It never sounds muddy, even with overdrive. The Alnico 2 magnet in the neck pickup contributes to that mellow clarity.
How Does It Play?
The string action at the 12th fret measures right at 4/64” on the low E string and just under 4/64” on the high E. The ‘60s C shape is a great all-around neck carve. It’s sort of a middle ground between thick and thin. And with a 12” radius, playability is off the charts.
