The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
This guitar has a deliciously warm and robust bottom, with an articulate top end. The body is constructed of solid alder (even the carved top), giving it that edge in clarity over its laminate-construction semi-hollow brethren.
With this Fano GF6, think Allman Brothers if Dickey Betts played a semi-hollow. The entire guitar weighs under 7lb, so it’s a real shoulder pleaser too!
The Lollar Imperial pickup set is versatile, with a little more gas than the low wind pickups that often go in semi-hollow guitars but still sitting squarely in that PAF range. The neck pickup measures about 76k, is thick and a bit bluesy, but still has a transparent quality in the top end. Smooth but not too rolled off.
The bridge pickup gets a little boost to balance the neck, measuring about 8.4k and ready to deliver some good grind when you crank up the gain. It has a sweet chirp on top that can be tailored as desired with the tone knob. The middle position is lush but snappy.
How Does It Play?
Fano’s “early ‘60s C” neck profile is a favorite of ours. It provides ample shoulder to support the hand, but does so with a moderately-slim depth of around .83” at the first fret. The neck sets up very nicely and plays beautifully all the way up and down. The string action at the 12th fret measures just 4/64” on the bass side and even lower on the treble side, without any buzz.
