Each Fano Oltre series instrument is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. Fano absolutely knocked it out of the park with the pickups, design and feel of the JM4. The tones are thick and delicious through the lows and mids but always matched with clarity and precision. Playing up the neck? Still warm and tight. The tone knob dials in the punch and “bite” and is musical throughout its entire sweep. The bass sounds killer through a PA and in-ears alike.

The bass is currently wired from Fano as Volume / Volume / Tone like a Jazz bass. Disregard the typo on their spec sheet. However, if you do want to go Volume / Blend / Tone, we can certainly accommodate!

How Does It Play?

This bass sets up very nicely with string action measures 3/32” on the low E at the 12^th fret, and 2/32” on the high G. There is no fretbuzz. The neck is a little rounder than an early Jazz but still nice and fast.
