Each Fano Oltre series instrument is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. Fano absolutely knocked it out of the park with the pickups, design and feel of the JM4. The tones are thick and delicious through the lows and mids but always matched with clarity and precision. Playing up the neck? Still warm and tight. The tone knob dials in the punch and “bite” and is musical throughout its entire sweep. The JM4 sounds killer through a PA and in-ears alike.

How Does It Play?

The neck maintains the feel of an early jazz bass neck but with a fuller shoulder to give you something to grab onto. The string action is nice and low, measuring a touch under 6/64” (or 3/32”) on the low E string at the 12th fret, and just 5/64” on the high G. There is no fretbuzz anywhere on the neck.
