What Does Josh Think?

This Black Limba build is a stunner. Black Limba is the darker, more exotic looking counterpart to White Limba (Gibson tradename “Korina”). With Limba you get all the woody depth and body of mahogany, but a more crisp and sparkling upper register. This guitar delivers exactly along those lines.

The neck position Suhr Thornbucker has a powerful bottom end and expressive middle and upper registers. There’s nothing muddy, and yet there’s warmth to spare. The bridge position Thornbucker has some good bark, but with a signature Limba/Korina shimmer on top. It’s a very well-rounded pickup, and indeed a very well-round bridge position.

Also worth noting, this guitar weighs in right around 7 ½ pounds. With a Bigsby!

How Does It Play?

The neck is a fast, but nicely rounded medium C. Early ‘60s Fender inspired. The string action is a low 4/64” at the 12^th fret on the low E string and even lower on the high E. Frets are nicely dressed and there is no fretbuzz.
