The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
These are some very unique specs for a Fano. You can’t go wrong with Sonic Blue and a rosewood board, as it’s a classic and handsome combination. Dress it up with block inlays and a crisp parchment pickguard, and you've got a real winner. The medium-heavy aging looks great and adds a broken in feel to the neck.
Tonally, this Fano covers quite a bit of real estate with its HSS pickup combination. The bridge position Imperial always performs. The open coil variant opens up the articulation without being too bright. Believe it or not, you can get ‘80s hard rock tones as well as your classic rock or country sounds.
The neck and middle Lollar Blonde’s are excellent singles. Super versatile and very easy to play. The bottom end is juicy and the top is snappy. The in between positions both worked well with some overdrive, and position 4 in particular dishing out the spank when cleaned up.
Position 2 brings in the full humbucker in conjunction with the middle pickup for a slightly more punchy and compressed take on this position. It's like putting a studio mastered guitar tone at your fingertips. You can feel the individual contributions of each pickup in a delightful way and epitomizes the flexibility and power of the HSS configuration.
The Gotoh 510 is a superb tremolo. Specifically, this is the 510T-SF2 model with traditional steel saddles and Gotoh’s FST mechanism which prevents the strings from binding on the baseplate as they exit the block. Tuning returns perfectly to pitch after use. And the tremolo arm has an improved thread design and an adjustable collet to take out the play that plagues traditional S-Style trems.
How Does It Play?
The early ‘60s-inspired C profile is temperately slim and allows for lavishly fast playing, yet also maintains a nice round shoulder that supports the hand and thwarts fatigue. The finish is sanded naturally off the back to prevent any nitro stick as your hands get moving. The string action measures right at 4/64” across all strings without any buzz.
