The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Does Cam Think?
First off, this is one of the coolest looking Fano’s I’ve seen. You don’t see too many ‘blacked-out’ off-set guitars in general. Our shop owner Josh really did something unique when he optioned this one out. This JM6 also features X-Light aging, which is the least intense aging Fano does. It makes for a sharp and clean looking guitar. Definitely a stand out in our showroom.
Tonally, this JM6 owes quite a bit to the killer set of Lollar Mini-Humbuckers. The tones are bright and lively in all the right ways. You’ll get plenty of chime everywhere you need it, but never did I feel like it was too harsh.
The neck pickup gave me a fullness that sounded great for chords, but with an articulation that made my playing cut through. I was especially impressed with the middle position. There was an addicting jangle that I gravitated towards. I couldn’t stop playing! The bridge position mini hum was perfectly bright and articulate. Just great for arpeggiated lines or country rhythm playing.
How Does It Play?
The string action measured just over 4/64” at the 12th fret on the low E String and right at 4/64” on the high E. No string buzz to mention. The Dunlop 6105 fret-size is very comfortable. They are tall enough for easy bends but narrow enough for accurate intonation. A great middle ground fret size. I like the early ‘60s C shape of the neck a lot. It allows for comfort and a fast feel simultaneously.
