What Does Cam Think?
This Fano JM6 has a great combination of specs, making for a versatile guitar. This one features an alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, Lollar Mini Humbucker in the neck, a LollarTron in the bridge, and a Bigsby B5/ TOM bridge combo. I’m a sucker for metallic finishes and Charcoal Frost looks killer! The aging and finish checking shows added depth and dimension with a metallic finish. It really looks sharp!
The LollarTron bridge/ Mini Humbucker in the neck is a great combination. I was initially thinking the pickups might be too bright, but I was pleasantly surprised in how great they sound. Yes, we are dealing with brighter pickups as compared to say, Lollar Imperials. But when put into practice, the pickup set works quite well. Neither position sounded too strident. The bridge LollarTron is jangly in all the right ways. I experienced excellent note separation and single coil-esque attack. Man, what a cool pickup!
The neck position Mini-Hum is almost like a mini Lollar Imperial. Still has that nice even Imperial sound, but with a little less output and bottom end. This really helps with any potential mud or woofy-ness you might get in a neck position pickup. In the middle position, you get that scooped funky tone, but even more funky in this case. If you already have the two-humbucker guitar thing covered, this JM6 would be an excellent addition to your arsenal.
How Does It Play?
I like the early ‘60s-inspired C profile. It’s slim, but not skinny. A bit faster than a fatter profile, especially with the finish sanded off the back of the neck. The string action measures just over 4/64” at the 12th fret on the low E string, and just under 4/64” at the 12th fret on the high E string. It’s a super comfortable guitar!
