Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

This is a resonant one! Between the midrange growl of the alder body and the snap of the maple neck and fretboard, the guitar sounds very balanced acoustically before even plugging in. And you can feel it through your chest as well. The low register is powerful and impactful.

The voicing of Fano humbuckers is robust. They lean a hair darker than some other PAF-styled offerings, which makes them a perfect complement to the maple fretboard. The bridge position comes through rich and meaty, with a controlled top end. It sounds gorgeous through a clean amp, but we know you’re going to want to turn on the overdrive sooner or later. This pickup thrives through a drive channel.

The neck position features a lightly compressed attack with a big, bold bloom. It’s a little smokey but maintains enough enunciation to let you rip through some bluesy double stops or strum vast open chords with clarity. The middle position is tight and bell-like. More spank than quack. Plenty of snap and chimey highs.

How Does It Play?

The string action on this guitar measures a very nice 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret, and even lower on the high E. There is no fretbuzz. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is round without being chunky. We would call it supportive before calling it lean, and it is a breeze to play up and down the neck.
