What Does Parker Think?
I love the color on this PX6! Finished in a beautiful Fiesta Red it is surely a looker! Luckily too this guitar sounds as good as it looks, loaded with a pair of Fano’s own P-90’s and ready to rock! The offset shape combined with the Bigsby B5 make for a super cool axe with a ton of vibe.
Neck pickups can often be muddy or dull, but that is far from the case here. This Fano P90 is clear and articulate, with plenty of snap to go around! I love the midrange on it specifically, as it cuts through a mix without getting too honky or nasal. It has all the sparkle of a single coil as well, but with just a bit of extra fatness you’d expect from a P90.
The Fano P90 in the bridge is, unsurprisingly, a great match for its brother in the neck. It has a bright and clear sound without getting harsh. The Bisgby also gives it a cool snappy and stringy sound that works great for both rhythm and lead! I really liked it for chordal playing into an amp on the edge of breakup. With how dynamic the pickup is all the drive in the amp was controlled by my picking dynamics. It compresses in just the right way as well to make your playing sing especially when playing with your fingers.
My favorite was actually the middle position, almost sounding like a Tele middle position on steroids! I loved it for cleaner cowboy chords, with the top end of the bridge position combining with the bottom end of the neck make for a well-balanced combination.
How Does It Play?
This Fano plays great, with their 50’s Roundback profile feeling nice and full. The neck is certainly not small, but I would not say it’s too chunky either. It fills the hand but does not fight you when playing. The 10-16” radius means playing and bends will be a breeze anywhere up and down the neck. The string action is nice and low, measuring only 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E. The neck is free of fretbuzz.
