Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

The Lollar Gold Foil in the neck position of this guitar is the pickup equivalent to a ribbon microphone… warm and detailed, nuanced to the slightest picking dynamic and placement. Picking closer to the bridge yields an almost brassy top end and crisp midrange, while moving an inch or two towards the neck exudes a delicate warmth with some single-coil character mixed in. With a little bit of overdrive this pickup readily delivers smokey blues and outlaw country riffs.

The Special T in the bridge position harnesses the punch of the T-Style bridge, yet has a snarl more reminiscent of a P-90 than a Tele. It is bold with an instantaneous attack, commanding attention through clean and dirty amps alike. This is a great pickup for breaking through a dense mix, not lacking in bottom end but with a nice upper midrange bite that finds its way through.

How Does It Play?

This guitar is really dialed in! The late 50’s contour neck feels amazing without being too large. The action is low without any trouble spots up and down the fretboard. It measures just 4/64” on the low E at the 12^th fret and under that on the high E. The guitar is also quite lightweight, under 7.5 lb. It’s impossible to resist saying this is the Cadillac of guitars. There, we said it. But it is!
