Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

Clean, defined top end with a warm, lush midrange. The “body” captured by these pickups is unreal. They’ve got some serious girth on the bottom paired with a pure, natural enunciation on the top. Somehow even without the big hollow body, this guitar captures the soul of that vintage Gretsch Country Gentleman sound.

If you want to rock, the bridge pickup has a nice little bump in the 2k range that gives it a real bark. It sounds great for clean bridge position tones with a punch as well. The middle position has some nice chime on the top, all without losing the warmth and depth of the pickups in their individual positions. It also has a slight quack as the two pickups phase together that really makes this position pop. The neck pickup maintains a clear high end and displays rich Goldfoil-like tendencies to our ears but with a little more punch.

And wow, the finish checking is gorgeous on this guitar. We asked Fano to give us an aged version of Firemist Silver and they nailed it. The guitar has the beautiful teal/green tint we were looking for and looks just sublime under the lights.

How Does It Play?

The early 60’s C neck profile leans on the slim side for comfort, with enough shoulder and girth to comfortably support the hand. The fretwork is impeccable with highly polished frets and smooth fret ends. The neck adjusts right where it needs to be and the string action is low and fast. The guitar is beautifully sculpted on the back to hug the body and has a generous arm contour to keep your picking hand relaxed.
