Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

We love the mix of a Lollar’s Alnico Pole P-90 in the neck with their traditional bar magnet P-90 in the bridge. Think of the neck position as an exceptionally rich, harmonically complex take on Strat neck pickup. The midrange is ever so slightly hollowed to give you that iconic, bluesy grind when you dig in. But the Alnico Pole P-90 also has immense warmth and remarkable sweetness on tap.

The bridge position balances perfectly in output with the neck, but has a character all its own. In typical P-90 fashion, the midrange has more grit and snarl. This pickup sounds incredible for everything from your more forward clean tones to your classic rhythm crunch to your singing leads. Rolling back the tone control will even deliver smooth, fat tones with a humbucker-esque heat.

The middle position is all sparkle, with a natural and nuanced compression that plants your notes precisely and assertively. The blend of the two pickups provides an extraordinary platform for everything from tight, arpeggiated passages to straight-forward strumming. The bottom is bold and yet exceptionally controlled, and the entire EQ spectrum is evenly balanced.

This guitar sports an NOS (“new old stock”) finish for that just-out-of-the case look. You’ll get to enjoy seeing it age with natural finish checking and all the beauty marks you’ll add while you play.

How Does It Play?

This beauty sets up with the string action measuring just a hair over 4/64” at the 12^th fret on the low E, and right at 4/64” on the high E. Completely free of fretbuzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue.
