Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive!

The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. We are an Alt de Facto dealer, so if this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.

What Does Josh Think?

Looking for a “spanky” but thick humbucker guitar that rises above the rest in the mix? You’ve found it. The Suhr Thornbuckers deliver exceptional clarity and liveliness, allowing room for the natural bloom and punch of the mahogany body/maple top combination. The tone of this guitar is simultaneously rich and transparent. The low end is enormous, while the midrange bears complexity and open quality to equal measure.

Available tones run the gamut of classic to modern. The neck is warm but defined. The bridge is energetic and finely-balanced. The guitar handles clean tones and gain tones with the same ease. Independent coil splits on each pickup open up even further options. The coil split on the neck is especially sweet, with only minimal volume loss. Getting a little more creative with the pickup combinations, running the bridge pickup split with the neck pickup in full humbucking mode is one of my favorites. The blend of humbucking and single coil qualities is lush and vibrant.

Another unique quality to this instrument is its thin nitrocellulose finish. If you want it to remain pristine forever, this may not be the instrument for you. But if you want a gorgeous “drop top” instrument that will wear with you, this is a perfect match. It also exhibits some beautiful finish checking that will continue to break in with the guitar over time.

How Does It Play?

Fano’s early ‘60s C neck is a nice medium profile with good shoulder and gentle taper from the nut to the heel. The string action on this guitar measures a superbly low 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and 3/64” on the high E, without any buzz. The frets are dressed to perfection.
