Information

Brand New w/ Warranty. We are an authorized Fano Dealer.

Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive.

Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!

What Does Josh Think?

Tonally, the Lollar Firebird pickup presents itself as a fat single coil pickup, but with the inherent advantages of a humbucker in bass response and output level. The EQ curve follows the broad-frequency examples of some of the finest single coils, but the note attack gets the slightly rounded treatment of the humbucker. The full Fender scale length preserves plenty of snap and spank to the notes and also gives you access to fat Telecaster-like sounds.

This is also one of the best coil-split pickups we have heard. The push/pull volume knob gives you access to true single coil tones with less volume drop than a typical humbucker coil split. In fact, it can be used to the welcome effect of “cleaning up” a dirty amp and highlighting the sparkle of the pickup.

I would describe the tone of the coil split is best described as falling halfway between a Strat’s bridge pickup alone and bridge/middle position. It has a touch of the quack of that combined position mixed with the punch and bell-like tone of a typical bridge position. For me, it’s a best-of-both worlds single-coil sound that a Strat inherently lands on either side of as you switch through the positions.

So, a one-trick wonder? Not at all. Two completely unique pickup sounds that play very nicely with the volume knob. Lots of punch and bite turned all the way up, and more emphasis on a silky midrange as the volume is dialed back. And fantastic interaction with an amp on the verge of breakup as well.

How Does It Play?

The string action at the 12th fret measures just 4/64” on the low E and even lower on the high E, without buzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. We do a thorough check and make the occasional truss rod, nut or saddle tweak to make sure the guitar plays exactly to our liking. The contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless.
