What Do We Think?

The Fano MG6 provides a full 25.5” scale length take on the classic Mustang, doing away with the intonation and low string tension issues that hinder the shorter scale design. This one features a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for even more depth and sustain.

The Lollar El Rayos in this guitar provide the articulation of a single coil with the roundness of a humbucker. Clean tones are open through the midrange and chimey on top, with plenty of body that stays tight and defined. The pickups handle gain in much the usual creamy fashion of other humbuckers, without being nasal or too heavy in the mids. They have a full but moderate output that doesn’t hit the front end of your pedals too hard, leaving them the headroom to work their magic with clarity. Throw those drives, verbs, delays and pitch modulations in your signal chain, and you’ll love what you hear on the other end.

CTS pots and Orange Drop tone cap are a nice touch, and we found the tone control to be wonderfully usable. The sweep is wide and the sweet spot is very large, allowing you to leave the hi-fi behind and get some classic ZZ Top rhythm tones or the filtered sounds of Brad Paisley’s “Ticks.”

How Does It Play?

The early 60’s C neck profile leans on the slim side for comfort, with enough shoulder and girth to comfortably support the hand. The fretwork is impeccable with highly polished frets and smooth fret ends. The neck adjusts right where it needs to be and the string action is low and fast. The guitar is beautifully sculpted on the back to hug the body and has a generous arm contour to keep your picking hand relaxed.
