Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Cam Think?
If I’m not mistaken, this is the first Fano PX6 that I’ve ever really sat down and played. From the first chord I strummed, I noticed that the guitar seemed alive and resonant. I felt what I was playing as much as I heard what I was playing. In fact, the neck joint felt so rock solid that I initially thought this was a set neck instrument! And despite the larger body size, it’s quite comfortable to sit with. My picking had fell naturally in place, even having never played this model before. Overall, I’m really digging the design!
Regarding tones… I plugged the PX6 into the Amplified Nation Wonderland Overdrive. I was pleasantly surprised with the sonics right off the bat. The pickups are Fano’s own humbuckers and they sounded great! The neck position was fat and warm with just enough articulation to bring out clarity in what I was playing. The bridge humbucker was throaty and crisp with overtones and harmonic content. The pickups remind me of PAF style humbuckers with just enough output to help my playing feel fluent. I cranked up the gain a bit and was greeted with a fluidity and girth to my chords and lead lines. Dare I say this reminds me a super solid ‘G’ style instrument.
How Does It Play?
The PX6 has a full neck carve, reminiscent of a late 50’s set neck instrument. It’s probably my favorite Fano neck profile. It is very comfortable and has enough size to make you feel connected with the instrument. The guitar sets up straight for low string action up and down the fretboard without buzz. Action measures just over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and just under 4/64” on the high E string at the 12th fret.
