The Lion Special was designed for players who want a Lion guitar, but with a little different sound than a standard T-style. The Lion Special offers a pair of Lollar P-90s or Imperial humbuckers, and a Gotoh hardtail or Graph Tech ResoMax wraptail bridge—all wrapped in your choice of classic nitro finishes.

What Does Cam Think?

This particular Lion Special is extra special. It sports an alder body finished in an incredible silver sparkle paint job. Light checking in the nitro finish sets off this Lion’s spectacular looks.

Other appointments include aged nickel hardware, a master grade roasted flame maple neck, an ebony fretboard, and stunning real abalone block inlays. I can’t stress how amazing the abalone blocks look! This instrument is a showstopper for sure!

The bridge sound is massive, great note clarity and a well-sculpted midrange that offers just the right amount of bite in the upper mids. The Lollar Imperial is a pretty dynamic humbucker, and if you like to ride the volume knob on your guitar it will clean up very nicely without losing too much top end.

And if you're looking for a creamy neck tone with plenty of punch, this guitar has it. The ebony fretboard keeps the note attack nice and defined. Lastly, the guitar offers a scooped and snappy middle position that's a lot of fun to play. 

How Does It Play?

The string action is fast and low, measuring just 4/64” at the 12^th fret across all strings. The neck is a familiar Medium C, a little “healthier” than Fender’s Modern C for frame of reference. Frets are beautifully dressed and there is no fret buzz anywhere on the neck.
