What Does Josh Think?

This one’s got a beautiful round C neck, the lushest shade of Lake Placid Blue you’ve probably ever seen, and a stellar set of hand wound pickups. The guitar weighs less than 7 ¼ pounds but packs a big punch.

The pickups are just slightly hollowed out in the midrange, but only enough to grant you an incredibly percussive bottom end along with a delightful spank in the midrange. No abrasive upper midrange spike. These things just sing.

The neck position is big and throaty. This position, along with the neck/middle combined position, exhibits a fantastic fullness and tightness in the bottom register. Single note riffs jump off the fretboard with authority. That neck/middle position adds a little extra spank but maintains full volume without any big dips in the EQ.

The middle position starts to shift the emphasis more into the upper mids, perfect for pushing through a dense mix. The bridge pickup has a rich, more compressed nature than the neck and middle. A perfect rock ‘n’ roll go-to. The top end is not spikey, and can be even further rolled off with the dedicated 2^nd tone knob if desired. And for one final flavor, the bridge/middle position gives you all the phasey/funky/quacky “in between” sound you could ever ask for. 

How Does It Play?

The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12^th fret, super easy to play and leaving just enough string clearance to grab big bends without any fret-out. The neck is a pure round C. Not excessively large, but fills out the hand very comfortably. The frets are the ever-popular Dunlop 6105 profile, maintaining a vintage feel but with more height and fret life to work with.
