The Panther combines vintage tone and feel with uncompromising accuracy, playability and durability. The bass boasts an ultra-light body, 34” scale length, 7.25-9.5” compound radius fretboard, and a single Lollar P-Style split pickup with the option of adding a J-Style bridge pickup as well. With superb dynamics and a vast tonal range, this bass is all you need to sit just right in the mix with classic warm and fuzzy low end—once you pick her up, it’s hard to put her down.

What Does Cam Think?

While we mostly deal with Shabat’s guitar builds, which are exceptional, we have had handful of basses come through. I can tell you, the basses are just as nice as the guitars! The same classic design influences are present, but with that unique Shabat spin and exceptional quality.

This Panther bass is based on the legendary ‘P’ model, heard on more recordings to count. Specs include an alder body, aged Fiesta Red over Burst finish, a roasted flame maple neck, rosewood board with block inlays, and Lollar P Split-Coil pickups. It feels vintage, sounds vintage, but plays like a Shabat. The fretwork and attention to detail are second to none.

The Lollar Split-Coil pickups sound like your classic P Bass pickups, but with more cutting upper-mids, delivering that classic mid-forward sound. The lows are full and beefy with smooth high-end detail. It’s that P sound we all know and love. You’d be hard pressed to find a better bass in that ‘P’ style.

How Does It Play?

The satin feel of the roasted flame maple neck is velvety smooth. There is no stickiness whatsoever, allowing you to fly across the fretboard. I also love the Modern C neck. It’s not too thin and has plenty of material to support your hand. String action measures just 6/64” at the 12^th fret on the E string and 5/64” at the 12^th fret on the G string.
