The Xotic XTC-1 is a premium T-Style instrument combining vibrant appointments and vintage tonality. Standard options include an ash or alder body, maple or rosewood fingerboard, and roasted maple or roasted figured maple neck. As Xotic puts it, the XTC is truly a vintage style electric guitar with modern appointments. Make your dream XTC a reality!
What Does Cam Think?
Xotic has been a shop favorite ever since we received our first batch of instruments. They are super high quality, great sounding guitars with incredible attention to detail. I describe them as vintage in look and sound, with modern playability and quality.
The XTC-1 model may be the collective favorite amongst us at the shop. Something about the aged finish, roasted flame maple neck, and Raw Vintage pickups has us coming back for more. It’s one of the best ‘T’ style guitars I’ve ever played, and we have some stiff competition at the shop. Now, let’s talk tone!
The bridge pickup is quite authoritative, but also quite versatile. It can be bright and aggressive, giving that quintessential ‘T’ style tone we all know and love. And with a turn of the tone knob, you can coax much smoother single notes or even strummed sounds. Hard to believe so much character can be had in one pickup position.
The neck position follows suit with a multifaceted spectrum of sonic sculpting. Need that smooth ‘T’ neck pickup tone that’s full yet articulate? What about that rolled-off jazzy tone that’s so fun to play? This axe has you covered in either case. And the in-between position, that scooped funky tone? Yep, it’s here in spades. There just isn’t a bad tone to be had in any position. Xotic has hit a home run with their RV-TE pickups, and the XTC model in general.
How Does It Play?
The string action measures just 4/64” across all strings at the 12th fret. The Modern C neck profile is a little misleading, as the feel in my hand is more vintage than modern, but extremely comfortable. The shape doesn’t get too full or bloated up the neck, yet it remains supportive to the hand.
The Jescar nickel silver fretwire is top notch. You get the tonality of nickel/ silver with durability that’s closer to that of stainless steel. The 55090 fret size is great for everything, from chords to hot licks. And the satin feel of the neck is fast without a hint of stickiness.
