Starr Guitars isn’t exactly a new kid on the block. For years, Kip Elder has been doing high-end finish makeovers and killer vintage restorations. On the side, he’s been doing custom from-the-ground-up builds for a selective clientele. As he expands his luthier business, Guitars To Be Played is proud to come onboard as a dealer and share the work of Starr Guitars with a larger audience.

How Does It Play?

The string action sits at a classic-feeling 5/64" on the low E at the 12th fret and 4/64" at the high E. There is no fret buzz. The slim, modern C profile feels effortless and comfortable, but with enough meat in the shoulders to support the hand all night long. Kip has sanded the finish on the back of the neck lightly to knock down the gloss and reflect the way a played-in neck would feel. A contoured heel joint makes the neck an absolute joy to play from top to bottom.
