Used Ibanez UV7BK Universe 'Green Dot' 7 String Guitar w/ Case – Black

Like what you see? All photos are of the exact item you will receive. There is a touch up to the green Ibanez logo on the headstock, as well as a few small dings to the fretboard edge and headstock. This guitar has general playwear, minor scratches, and scuffs congruent with its age. There is also minor wear the ‘cosmo black’ finish on the bridge and hardware. We’ve included photos so you can take a look!

In via trade! If you know me, you know I have an unhealthy obsession with Ibanez guitars of the late ‘80s and ‘90s. Specifically the Vai signature models, the Jem and Universe. This is the nicest example of an original ‘Green Dot’ Universe that I have ever come across. It’s in great shape, especially considering its age. I believe this to be a ‘final year’ Green Dot, so a 1996, mostly based on condition.

It still has the original 6140 frets with only minor wear. The original fretwire is relatively small by today’s standard, so that is a huge bonus, as opposed to having worn out frets on already small fretwire. This is at the top of the heap as far as sevens go, so grab this one that’s ready to play!  

From the Ibanez Fandom wiki: The UV7 is a seven string Universe series solid body electric guitar introduced by Ibanez in 1990. It is a signature model of American guitarist Steve Vai. It was made in Japan by FujiGen. It is also referred to as the green dot Universe due to its green fretboard inlays.

The UV7 features an American basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with green dot position markers. Components include green DiMarzio Blaze II pickups mounted in a black pickguard with a pair of humbuckers flanking a single-coil, a double locking tremolo tremolo bridge, Gotoh tuning machines and green top hat knobs.

The initial UV7 models have an Edge 7 tremolo; these 1990 Universe models are the only guitars on which this tremolo has been offered. From 1991 that was replaced with the new Lo Pro Edge 7. The color scheme of the UV7 is based on that of the JEM777V BK.

The UV7P is a similar model with a white finish and pickguard and disappearing pyramid fretboard inlays. The UV77 is a similar model with a swirl finish and three color disappearing pyramid inlays.

The UV7 was discontinued after 1996 and replaced by the UV7S.

How Does It Play?

The truss rod functions properly and the guitar sets up nicely. The string action sits at just over 4/64”” on the low B string, and right at 4/64” on the high E string, measured at 12^th fret. This thing plays great!
