The Ibanez Genesis Collection reflects the origins of the RG line; utilizing the same design and styling, paired with precise construction and Japanese craftsmanship. This series is a tribute to Ibanez’s past, delivering the same paradigm shifting features and heavy-hitting performance of the original RG.

The RG is the most recognizable and distinctive guitar in the Ibanez line. Three decades of metal have forged this high-performance machine, honing it for both speed and strength. Whether you favor a hardtail (fixed) bridge or our industry-leading locking tremolo system, the RG is a precision instrument.

What Does Parker Think?

This RG565 is more than just a shred machine, although it excels at that too! The Infinity R rail-style neck humbucker, a V8 humbucker in the bridge, and a 5-way switching system make for a deadly combo indeed. I really like the switching options. They make this guitar very flexible, with a sound for pretty much any scenario on tap. I will admit, I was fooled by the aesthetic of a pointy guitar with humbuckers, but it can do so much more than just that. However, this guitar was tailor-made to be a proper rocking guitar, with the Super Wizard neck and Ibanez’s locking tremolo system as well.

The Infinity R neck pickup sounds great in this guitar! Due to its physical location in a 24-fret guitar, a neck pickup that is not voiced correctly can sometimes be too bright or shrill. That is not the case here, as it has a distinct clarity and sparkle. Ibanez clearly took the spacing into account and voiced a pickup to make this work. It has a lot of definition and spank that I really like, but it is never too bright.

The V8 bridge pickup, as the name might suggest, has plenty of horsepower! As an alnico pickup, I find it to be a little more natural sounding than some ceramic pickups can be. It really lends nicely to the rock or metal guitar tone you might be chasing with this RG. The midrange just barks in the right way, and I could not get a bad sound out of it, whether I was playing riffs with some gain or even clean chords. I also love how clear it is. It doesn’t suffer from the nasal tone that some high output pickups can have. I was having a blast running this RG into a Bad Cat Hot Cat and going to town with some gain!

How Does It Play?

This RG plays like butter, plain and simple. For your fast technical lines, you can’t beat the Super Wizard neck profile. The jumbo frets add another layer of playability, making it super easy to grab notes quick anywhere on the neck. Ibanez knows how to make a guitar that will never fight you and makes playing with speed an absolute breeze.
