The Kauer Banshee Deluxe retains the same neck thru construction that makes the Banshee so unique, but adds a maple top for a distinct sonic flavor. Measuring ¼” thick in the middle and 1/8” on the wings, it imparts a bite and tightness not heard in the standard Banshee and pairs especially well with humbucking pickups. Nonetheless, the body maintains the thin dimensions, comfortable contours and lively response of its namesake. What Do We Think?

This guitar delivers the dry bark of a Spanish Mahogany body, the snap and bite of a Maple cap, and the clarity and beautiful vocal response of a pair of Wolfetone KauerBuckers. Throw some gain on it and you’ll instantly be dishing out the Les Paul-like tones of your favorite Slash riffs.

For those familiar with the Wolfetone lineup, the KauerBuckers bridge pickup is wound slightly hotter than the Legend and the neck pickup is slightly underwound to keep the mids nice and open in the mahogany body. They utilize fully-charged Alnico II magnets for a tone that is vintage at heart but with just the right touch of heat. The bridge pickup can really sizzle with the gain cranked but maintains a classic feel and composure all the way.

The middle position delivers a surplus of sparkle and shimmer if you’re looking for some of the most lush, lively clean tones you’ve ever heard. Far from being a position to shy away from, it really gives the guitar a third voice. It doesn’t sound “filtered” like some middle positions, yet it has an amazing clarity and presence on top of a big, tight bottom end.

Something else we love about the KauerBuckers? They respond very nicely to the tone knob on your guitar. You can fine-tailor the vowel of the pickup by rolling back the tone knob, and it is usable across nearly the entire sweep of the knob. You can control the frequency of your pinch harmonics, massage the top end to sit rhythm parts deeper in the mix, or go for a full on cocked-wah tone all without losing clarity.

How Does It Play?

This one has a medium C neck that measures just slightly slimmer than most Banshees. It’s not a huge difference by the numbers, but it feels a little sleeker and faster for those of you wanting to rip. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E at the 12^th fret and 3/64” on the high E, without buzz. The frets are PLEK’d and perfectly dressed!
