What Do We Think?

This is a dang cool P-90 guitar. The Lollar Staple P-90 in the neck is hollowed out a touch in the midrange for a tone that is warm and woody in the mahogany body. The Alnico bar magnet pole pieces endow it with nice string clarity on top that doesn’t get lost in the warmth. The Wolfetone Meaner P-90 in the bridge position will hit home among humbucker players with its meaty midrange and a high end that is tamed but still cuts. It is EQ’d to perfection. The two pickups pair seamlessly in the middle position, with each pickup’s unique approach to the midrange leaving ample room for the other. This position has loads of shimmer in the highs and mids and a tight, even spanky low end.  

How Does It Play?

Like a dream. We don’t usually set up our guitars this low, but this one is at 4/64” and 3/64” at the 12th fret without a hint of string buzz. The neck is PLEK’d to perfection. The medium C profile is unabashedly comfortable at first touch. The mahogany body is resonant and lively before you even plug in, with a punch you can feel right in your chest.
