The Kauer Banshee features indelibly classic looks, comfortable contours and formidable tone. The mahogany body is slim but exceptionally resonant, assertive but stunningly agile. This is an instrument with the muscle to stand out in a mix and the poise to play nice with the rest of the band. If this isn’t exactly the Banshee you are looking for, feel free to contact us for a custom order to spec one out exactly to your liking!
What Do We Think?
Before even plugging in, take a moment to hear the acoustic qualities present in this guitar… you’ll find a warmth on bottom and a sweetness on top, with a percussive character throughout. With the combination of Wolfetone P90 and humbucker pickups (K90 and KauerBucker) you have all the tools you need to capture the breadth and nuance of this neck-thru mahogany guitar.
The K90 in the neck is sweet and open. Almost single-coil in nature, but with extra depth and a bit more heat when really digging in. The KauerBucker in the bridge takes a different approach, delivering a vintage-inspired honk in the midrange and presenting a more collected low end. Yet just like the neck position, it has a sweet upper register that conveys the purity and emotion of each pick attack.
This distinction of neck and bridge tones functions just as well in the middle position. This is perhaps where there is the most emphasis on the natural percussive qualities of the instrument. The frequency spectrum is wide but uncluttered. The collective scoop of the neck and moderate midrange hump of the bridge make for an EQ that is finely balanced all the way through. This position really jangles with clean chords and maintains nice articulation when adding a bit of dirt.
How Does It Play?
The C profile neck is unabashedly familiar at first touch. This one starts just a hair leaner than the average Banshee and works up to a nice chunky profile as you approach the 12th. The fretwork is superb. Doug’s utilization of the PLEK machine is evident in the perfection of the fret heights.
