Just arrived via trade in; you don’t see one of these every day! This is a Killer Guitars Exploder II. It’s made by the same folks that make the ESP E-II series in Japan. This the signature instrument of legendary guitarist Akira Takasaki of the band Loudness. If you are looking for a riff machine that can get loud, get your hands on this Exploder II!
From Killer Guitars: This semi-deep insert joint uses a total of five bolts: four from the back of the body and one from below the front pickup. Compared to a standard bolt-on neck, the connection area between the neck and body is larger, resulting in better sustain. At the same time, it eliminates any slight wobble between the neck and body. The truss rod can be adjusted using the wheel rod at the neck end. This allows for quick adjustment of the neck curvature by turning the wheel rod without having to remove the neck. The pickups are Killer's original LQ-500 and LZ-510 Dyna-Bite. The bridge is a Floyd Rose Thousand, recessed to allow for upward tremolo arm movement. It's a floating setup. The master volume control is a push/pull pickup tap switch. When tapped, both the neck and bridge pickups output the coil on the neck side.
How Does It Play?
The truss rod functions properly and the guitar sets up nicely. The string action sits at 4/64” on the low E string and just under 4/64” on the high E string, measured at the 12th fret.
