The Saticoy series of guitars are handmade S-style instruments crafted in Santa Clarita California. The Era series features a 4 stage “Flash Coat” ultra-thin nitro finish, allowing the guitar to resonate and breath and look good while doing so!
Colors include Trans Butterscotch, Vintage Cream, Faded Shell Pink and Faded Sonic Blue, all finished over a northeastern white pine or alder body. Seymour Duncan stacked noiseless pickups are standard, with the in-house hand-wound LsL pickups as an optional upgrade. Take one for a spin, you’ll be glad you did!
What Does Josh Think?
First of all, the roasted pine body is LIGHT. The guitar weighs less than 6lb 1oz without the trem arm and exactly 6lb 2oz with. The neck is roasted maple topped by a dark piece of rosewood. And the neck has a bit of flame to it as well! That’s for free.
The LsL pickups in this one are big, juicy and spanky. To my ears, they bridge the gap between a ‘50s and a ’60 voicing. The low end is warm and robust. The neck pickup is fantastically throaty and thrives on a good overdriven rig just as well as it does on a super clean amp. Super fun to play and dig into.
The neck/middle combination is spanky without losing output. The middle pickup starts to sound a little more ‘60s than ‘50s, which gives a really pure but powerful middle position that should not be overlooked. The bridge/middle brings on the quack, much more filtered sounding than neck/middle. Funky and energetic.
The bridge pickup gets a dedicated tone knob but you may not even need to use it! It can twang but it is full-bodied any way you cut the tone knob. Again, overdrives or amp gain can be your friend here. Coming full circle, the roasted pine body is big and resonant in tone despite its light weight.
How Does It Play?
The action measures just 4/64” across all strings at the 12th fret. The neck is a medium round C that sits nicely in the hand at the cowboy chord area and then starts to fill out midway up the neck to support your 9th and 12th fret blues boxes really nicely.
