What Do We Think?

The Alnico Rod Hum-Cancelling P-90s open up the perfect chime in the semi-hollow Miris J. The bottom is firm and robust, while the midrange gives way to a mild scoop that “cleans up” the area where a standard P-90 can sit a little too thick. The top end opens up with a nice airiness and is naturally tapered in its extremities by the semi-hollow construction.

The neck position has a slight compression that gets good and bluesy when you dig in, while staying clear and expressive under a variety of pick (or finger) dynamics. The bridge position can deliver pristine, poignant cleans but is powerful enough to drive a good overdriven amp with ease. Again, just a touch of natural compression to fatten things up, but not the “squish” of a humbucker. The middle position has immediacy and shimmer akin to the middle position on a Tele.

How Does It Play?

I perceive Novo's Medium C to start off with hints of ‘60s oval C and gradually transition into a round C as you progress towards the 12th fret. Folks tend to rave about them, and for good reason. I'm a fan. We have the string action on this one set at 4/64" across all six strings without a hint of buzz.
