What Do We Think?

We immediately hear the interwoven relationship of the Korina body, ebony fretboard and Lollar Imperial humbuckers. The body has an aged “dryness” that is complemented by the precision of the ebony, which lends a little extra clarity to each note. The Rutters ½ Bridge is another critical part of the tone recipe. Featuring brass saddles, it maintains a sweet warmth but sprinkles in a little spice on top.

All that to say, your gain tones are big and delicious. While the bottom end on this guitar is massive if you want it to be, you find it to be counterbalanced by an unsoiled treble response. The bridge pickup, for example, has more balance and less midrange snarl than you might find in a Les Paul.

Clean tones have that extra sugar on top too. The neck position is sweet instead of muddy. Deep and soulful, with a bit of extra snap when you dig in. The middle position remains full-bodied with a punchy, compressed attack. In all pickup positions, this guitar loves drop tunings.

How Does It Play?

The neck is a good medium C, sanded down on the back for a perfectly smooth playing experience. This one has a particularly rich caramel color after the roasting. The flame is highly 3-dimensional. The guitar sets up with beautiful string action and zero buzz. The action at the 12^th fret measures just 4/64” on the low E and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E.
