The ThinLion delivers the warmth, low end and roundness of the classic semi-hollow models players love, while maintaining the inspiration of a vintage-style slab-body electric. With the same outline and shape as our Lion Standard, the ThinLion features a semi-hollow mahogany or korina body, flame maple top, and your choice of dual humbuckers or dual P-90s—perfect for jazz and blues, of course, but heavy enough to shred hard rock and heavy metal.

What Do We Think?

This guitar is a magical combination of the Lollar El Rayo pickups, thinline mahogany body and maple top. The result is a clear and punchy midrange, tight but girthy bottom, and sweet top end.

The neck position has a gorgeous body and thick lower register, while maintaining a snappiness that never gets muddy. The midrange has a big round attack along with a mild EQ scoop that ensures it never becomes overpowering. The highs are lush and bluesy.

Moving to the bridge position we find a bite that is balanced by its sweetness. The semi-hollow body softens the edge a bit without reducing the punch of the pickup. Gain tones are thick and meaty while maintaining excellent string-to-string clarity. There is a bit of natural compression occurring within the body that gives the guitar a fully mixed-and-mastered quality.

Last, but not to be overlooked, is the middle position. It carries a bold attack through the mids and highs, with all the warmth of the neck position alive underneath. Think the middle position on a Tele with more power and more bottom end. Or the freshness of a set of FilterTrons without as much scoop.

How Does It Play?

The setup work coming out of Avi’s shop is impeccable. The string action at the 12^th fret hovers right around 4/64” across all strings, without buzz. The fret ends are smooth and nicely rounded. From truss rod to nut slots, this guitar is dialed in. The neck profile is a medium C that offers nice support without slowing down the fretting hand.
