Just in! This 2022 Whitfill S-Style landed in the shop via trade in. This is the second Whitfill guitar we’ve had come through, and I am just as impressed as I was with the first! It’s a super light, super resonant guitar that looks like a family heirloom. It sports an aged nitro finish over Sunburst. This is a handmade instrument, built by a single luthier.
Features include an alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, 9.5” radius, and a 1.625” nut width. Pickups are a trio of Fralin High Output Strat single coils. They are very well balanced with the neck being plenty thick in the bass and mids, while the bridge pickup is bright and articulate. These are beefy singles that are nice and fat. Controls include a 5-way blade switch, master volume, middle/ neck pickup tone control, and a separate tone control for the bridge pickup.
How Does It Play?
The truss rod functions properly and the guitar sets up nicely. The string action sits at 5/64” on the low E string and right at 4/64” on the high E string, measured at the 12th fret. The neck is a D shape that feels a bit rounder on the treble side, making it somewhat asymmetrical. It’s a nice fat profile with a little more shoulder on the bass side.
