Xotic XSS Series:
This model is dedicated to the “One", who changed the very essence of the existence of rock 'n' roll guitar itself and to the ones who get inspired by him and follow his footsteps
At Xotic, we use premium grade North American hard rock maple neck material. A slightly larger headstock than our Classic models enhance the sustain of the guitar to create a richer, fuller sound. Very minimal paint offers a very responsive feel and touch, and also articulates every note played.
The neck offers a super-fast profile with a 12” to 16” compound radius fingerboard, ideal for contemporary musicians seeking effortless playability. It is super stable thanks to the proprietary graphite reinforcement. While the neck construction remains true to the period-correct style, accessing the truss rod has never been easier with the addition of the truss rod wheel.
The body is crafted from premium lightweight tonewood sourced from North America, ensuring high-quality tone. Each piece undergoes meticulous handcrafted final sanding, delivering optimal aesthetics and playability.
At Xotic, we use the highest quality nitrocellulose lacquer, and our painting process is carefully executed to ensure superb tone. Poly-based primer coats commonly found in mass production are not used on Xotic guitars. These measures are taken to maximize the resonance of the body.
All Xotic Guitars come equipped with hand-wound Raw Vintage pickups. While many manufacturers opt out of hand-wound pickups due to cost and production challenges, Xotic takes pride in having seasoned artisans handcraft each pickup individually. Unlike the sterile sound of machine-wound pickups, experience the exceptional Raw Vintage pickups from Xotic, which deliver an earthy, organic tone with rich harmonics.
All hardware used is custom-tailored for Xotic Guitars. This includes a neck plate made of cold-rolled steel, customized Raw Vintage saddles, and RV tremolo springs. The locking Rotomatic tuners maintain precise tuning effortlessly. The tremolo bridge eliminates the ambiguity in tuning that is sometimes associated with vintage tremolo unit, providing a reliable and worry-free playing experience. Other types of tremolos, as well as fixed bridges, are available upon request.
How Does It Play?
The neck is a thin C profile, measuring about 0.79” at the first fret and 0.89” at the 12th. The back of the neck is somewhat flat, which is very reminiscent of the ‘superstrat’ necks of the ‘80s. I really love the neck profile on this one! The fretboard has a compound 12”-16” radius, allowing for excellent playability and clean bends all the way up the neck. The string action measures right at 4/64” across all strings, measured at the 12th fret. This may be my favorite Xotic to date!
