What Does Cam Think?

This XTC-1 is a perfect example of Xotic’s mission statement: Vintage style electric guitars with modern improvements. It’s finished in a butterscotch blonde, subtly translucent showing the ash underneath. I really like the aged parts as well, especially the pickups. One neat detail I noticed when checking out this instrument…the screws are all flat head. It’s a small touch, but it’s the details that make this one special. Other features include Jescar 55090 frets, vintage inspired RV-TE pickups, and a comfortable 9.5” radius.

So how does this guitar sound? Well, it leans towards that vintage T style thing. By that I mean lots of twang where it counts. You’ll have no problems commanding the room with this instrument. The neck position Raw Vintage pickup is sweet and full, just a great sounding neck pickup. It’s one of those pickups that has a lot of utility. I feel I could bring this guitar to many different gigs and cover my bases tonally and stylistically. And with the body wood being ash, it’s a nice platform in general tonally. If you want a reliable vintage T style, look no further.

How Does It Play?

The neck is a modern C profile, measuring about 0.84” at the first fret and 0.92” at the 12th. The fret ends are beautifully rounded with a mirror finish. The string action measures just over 4/64” at the 12th fret on the low E string, and right at 4/64" on the high E string. It's a great playing instrument!
