What Does Cam Think?

These thinline Xotics are truly extraordinary instruments. They resonate with every strum, much more than a typical electric. Some thinlines feel almost gimmicky, not benefiting from their semi-hollow nature. The XTC-TL takes full advantage of its construction, resulting in a vibrant instrument!

The XTC-TL has a killer set of hand-wound Xotic RV-TE pickups. It’s a balanced set that gets you the greatest hits of Tele tone. The bridge pickup is bright and articulate with that Tele grunt and authority. Notes feel powerful and cut through, but without any strident leanings.  

The neck pickup is full, yet chimey. You can get a little Stratty if you need too, but also approach jazz territory, and with plenty of clarity. The middle position is a nice blend of the two with slightly scooped mids, great if you need to get a little funky!

How Does It Play?

The string action sits at just 4/64” on the low E string and just under 4/64” on the high E string, measured at the 12^th fret. The Xotic neck is a thing to behold, both in shape and feel. It’s a Modern C carve with rounded shoulders and an unmatched satin feel. And boy, the flame maple on this thing is phenomenal!

The Jescar nickel/ silver fretwire is top notch. You get the tonality of nickel/ silver with durability that’s closer to that of stainless steel. The 51108 fret size feels great with the 9.5” radius. Intonation is precise and playability is off the charts!
